As social marketing and advocacy campaign play a vital role
in reaching the public with the government’s thrusts and programs, eleven information
officers and information technologists from all over the autonomous region offices
of the Department of Agrarian Reform gathered in Davao
City, April 8-9 for a crash course on news writing and website development.
The lectures consist of basic journalism on writing
effective news as well as the steps in developing a website.
The training was to prepare the information officers as
contributors for the establishment of the regional DAR website with provincial
links. The information technologists will be responsible in setting up the
respective websites of the five provinces under the region.
In the interaction that follows during the
preliminary program, the information officers raised issues and concerns
pertaining to their performance in information dissemination. Some of
the collective issues gathered were lack of training on basic
photography/photo journalism, lack of gadgets/equipment necessary to the
job, and lack of support from colleagues in the data gathering for news
materials.
