In support to Republic
Act 7192 (Women in Development and Nation Building Act), Executive Order No.
273 (Philippine Plan for Gender-Responsive Development), and Republic Act 9710
(Magna Carta for Women) that provide for mainstreaming of gender in development
plans and activities, twenty women from the agrarian reform communities took arms with beauty tools to equip
themselves with skills that could help bring food to their table.
This gender
mainstreaming strategizes to make women’s, as well as men’s, concerns and
experience an integral dimension of the design, implementation, monitoring and
evaluation of policies and programs in all political, economic, and societal
spheres so that women and men benefit equally and inequality is not
perpetuated. It is in the process of assessing the implications for women and
men of any planned action, including legislation, policies, or programs in all
areas and at all levels.
The training seeks to
achieve gender equality as a fundamental value that should be reflected in our
development choices and transform the social and economic structures of a
family into a mechanism where both women and men equally play active roles.
The women underwent lectures
and hands-on activities on the following beauty areas:
Hand and foot spa
Pedicure and manicure
and hair cutting
The skills training was
conducted through the partnership with the Isabela City Office of the Department
of Labor and Employment.
